Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol (HSAP) Internal Assessment Team Goes for Technical Visits in Laos
Eighteen delegates from our HSAP Internal Assessment team were recently at Nam Theun 2 (NT2) Hydropower Project and Mekong River Commission (MRC) in Laos for a technical visit. This capacity building initiative was organised by the Sustainability Division.
The visit to NT2 gave insights on how the global-model project was implemented and complied with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank safeguard policies through its environmental and social programmes. Delegates also learned about how international sustainability best practices in hydropower development and operation were implemented in developing countries.
The visit to MRC, on the other hand, provided an understanding of intergovernmental management for shared water resources to ensure sustainable development of the Mekong River.
