Baleh HSAP Outcome – Workshop on Process Improvement
Corporate Services (Sustainability Division) and Project Delivery Excellence (Baleh HEP) conducted a workshop on process improvement for Baleh HEP in accordance to Preparation/Implementation Tools of Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol (HSAP) at BCCK, Kuching on 29 April 2019. The main objective of the workshop was to finalise and subsequently roll-out the action plans that were identified in a preceding working-level workshop.
A total of 40 participants comprising of action owners and internal HSAP assessors from various departments took part in the workshop. During the workshop, action owners discussed and corroborated on the proposed action plans to address the non-compliances and basic good practices.
The action plans covered more than 14 sustainability topics across a range of technical, economic, social and environmental criteria. Some of the topics that were discussed and addressed during the break-out sessions were:
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication; Cultural Heritage
- Labour & Working Conditions; Public Health
- Indigenous People & Project Affected Community; Cumulative Impact Assessment; Erosion & Sedimentation
- Infrastructure Safety
- Reservoir planning, Catchment management, Downstream flow, Water Quality, Biodiversity & invasive species
Executive Vice President for Corporate Services, Aisah Eden in her welcoming remarks said that it was crucial that we act upon and implement the action plans to promote a structured and continuous process improvement towards better assessment, management, implementation as well as performance monitoring. She added that embedding best practices in our project development can open an opportunity for us to have access to green financing or green bond by highlighting to the investors that the key risks in hydropower development have been comprehensively assessed and managed.
